A Brief History of Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home & Crematory

Established 1896

Founded in 1896 as Butzin-Falkenstein Furniture & Undertaking, the Watson Street business became Butzin-Kussman Furniture & Undertaking in 1901. In 1920, Frederick Carl Butzin bought out his partner and renamed the firm Butzin

Furniture & Funerals. In 1927, Butzin opened a “funeral parlor”, one of Ripon’s first, located at 202 Blossom Street. Butzin’s sons joined the firm - Karl in 1935 and Frederick “Freddie” Jr. in 1947, along with Lewis “Butch” Egbert of Green

Lake.

After Freddie’s death in 1966, Jerry Marchant joined in 1967 and the firm became Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home & Crematory. In 1970, the firm built a new, modern facility on the corner of Oshkosh Street and Mayparty Drive, where the funeral home still

resides. Karl and Henrietta Butzin retired in 1975 and sold the business to Jerry and Faye Marchant.

Todd Goheen joined the firm in 1992, and in 1995 Jerry Marchant retired and sold the business to Todd and Tamera Goheen. They chose to retain the historic name.

In 2016, Christopher Bjornstad, Todd’s son-in-law, joined the firm as a funeral director. After many committed years to the community and business, Todd unexpectedly passed away in 2021, leaving the funeral home in the hands of

Christopher and Rolanda (Todd’s daughter) Bjornstad. In 2022, Christopher and Rolanda purchased the firm from Tamera Goheen, again, choosing to retain the historic name.

Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home & Crematory has continued the long tradition of serving each family with personal, hometown care and concern. It is our honor to provide comfort in times of need.
