William “Bill” F. Prelwitz, age 85, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Barrett House in Ripon.
Bill was born in Ripon on March 31, 1932, the son of George and Elaine (Samuelson) Prelwitz. He attended Ripon High School, and went on to serve our country in the United States Marine Corps. Bill married Louella Kuehn, who was the mother of his children. She passed away in 1964. He then married Marion Wizner, who passed away in 1989. Bill worked as a mechanic at Speed Queen for 42 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Local #1327, Speed Queen Retirees, as well as the VFW. Bill enjoyed racing, and raced his own stock cars at one time. He also enjoyed trips to the casino, where he would sit and socialize, making friends out of strangers. Most of all he loved playing cards, and would play any chance he could get.
Bill is survived by his significant other, Arlene Thiem of Ripon, WI; children, Dave (Mary) Prelwitz of Ripon, WI, Roy Prelwitz of Raleigh, NC, Chris (Wayne) Muhonen of Chetek, WI, Denise Chezem of Ripon, WI, and Tom (Connie) Prelwitz of Ripon, WI; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Raab of Oshkosh, WI; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Louella and Marion; a brother, Richard; and two sisters, Phylis Lueck, and Sally Weir.
A visitation for Bill will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Drive, Ripon, WI, 54971. Per Bill's wishes there will be no funeral service. Inurnment will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery with full military honors. A memorial is being established in his name.
