Verna Mae Thiel, age 86, of Ripon, WI, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton, WI.
Verna was born January 22, 1934 in Green Bay, WI, the daughter of Charles and Oral (Pierce) Collins. She married Marland Thiel on September 24, 1955. Verna was a devoted wife and mother to her 6 children. Beginning in the early 1970’s, she went to work at Heritage Wafers where she worked for many years. She later earned her CNA and worked at St. Agnes, eventually joining the Hospice team, which she absolutely loved. Verna was a member of St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church in Ripon. She was an avid bowler, loved to go camping with her family and enjoyed playing cribbage while drinking pot after pot of coffee.
Survivors include her 3 daughters, Kathy (Vince) King of Iron River, MI, Penny Hoff of Augusta, WI, Karen Thiel (fiancé Stan Jessick) of Ripon; 3 sons, Kelly Thiel of Ripon, Patrick Thiel of Ripon, Peter Thiel of Ripon; sister, Lois Sonnenberg of Ripon; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Oral Collins; husband, Marland “Marly” Thiel; step-mother, Louise Collins; brothers, Eugene, Alan, and Charles; sisters, Alice, LaVern, and Grace Ann; and grandsons, Jayson and Jaxon.
A Memorial Mass for Verna will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 1:00 pm at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 228 E. Blossom St., Ripon, WI 54971 with Reverend Robert A. Fictum officiating. . Those who attend Verna's Memorial Mass, the church kindly asks to please be mindful of following social distancing and mask recommendations. Inurnment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, City of Ripon, WI. Memorials may be directed to Agnesian Hospice, 745 South Street, Green Lake, WI 54941.
