Charles Lofgren

November 1, 1940 — December 4, 2022

Charles Wilfred Lofgren, age 82, of Green Lake, WI and Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 4, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Charlie was born in Oak Park, IL on November 1, 1940, son of Charles W., Sr. and Mary (Carpenter) Lofgren. He graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School and went on to earn his BA from Carleton College in Northfield, MN. In January of 1963, he married Mary Moses in St. Paul, MN. Charlie started his career in marketing for Johnson and Johnson, Inc. and went on to co-found and serve as President and Vice Chairman of ADE Inc. in Chicago, Il.

Carleton College was of particular importance to Charlie. He met his wife there and was thrilled to have two children and two grandchildren follow in his footsteps. He took great pride and joy in the “Spirit of ’62”. He also was a Carleton College Trustee, a member of the Alumni Council, an Annual Fund Representative, and he served on the Lofgren Fellowship Selection Committee.

Charlie was an active volunteer; he was a board member for numerous organizations including The Newberry Library and The Contemporary Art Society of Chicago, Il, Town Square of Green Lake, WI, and Princeton Recreation Center of Princeton, NJ. A passionate sports enthusiast, Charlie loved golf, tennis, skiing, football and basketball and was actively involved in his children’s and grandchildren’s athletics as a super fan, coach and co-founder of a co-ed youth soccer league in Princeton, NJ. He also loved the Bears, White Sox, Blackhawks, The Lyric Opera, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Art Institute among others. Widely regarded as a mentor, father figure and inspiration across generations, Charlie cheered us all on. On a special note, Charlie cherished his many four-legged friends throughout his life including his beloved cat Gladys who misses him very much.

Charlie is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Lofgren; three children, Stephanie Lofgren (Craig Stinebaugh) of New York City, Wesley Lofgren of Los Angeles, and Susan Lofgren (Anton Floquet) of Los Angeles; five grandchildren, Jackson, Patrick and Kyra Stinebaugh and Luke and Ryan Floquet; his favorite sister, Jane Pearsall (and husband, Henry) of Green Lake, WI and Naples, FL; sisters-in-law, Mary L. Lofgren and Candace Peterson; and thirteen beloved nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles, Sr. and Mary Lofgren; and a brother, Lewis “Lars” Lofgren.

A celebration of life for Charlie will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 in Green Lake. Memorials in his name may be directed to Carleton College at https://www.givecampus.com/ysjryp or to the Green Lake Town Square at https://greenlaketownsquare.org/donate.
