Sally was born on July 9, 1940, to Arthur Carter and Mary-Jessie (Nash) Carter. She graduated from Shaker Heights High School (Ohio), and Ripon College (WI) with a degree in Physical Education. In 1960, Sally married the love of her life, Andy Fleming.
Sally had a passion for sports whether it be as a participant, a coach, or a fan. This love of sports flowed into the lives of her children, grandchildren, and students that she taught, coached, and mentored.
Over their 65 years of marriage, Sally and Andy lived in or visited Europe, South and Central America, the Middle East, as well as the Far East. Their globetrotting also included over two decades of sailing the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and the eastern waterways of the United States on their beloved yacht, Wanderin’ Star, and later, their sailboat, Seaquel.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Eager and Anne Carter. Along with her beloved husband, Sally leaves behind her children, Sarah (Michael), Nancy (Ken), and William (Shelley); eight grandchildren; one step-grandchild; seven great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Kuhn and Jane Carter; and her brother, David (Nancy) Carter. She also leaves behind numerous cousins; nieces; and nephews; all of whom were dear to her heart.
Green Lake and Ripon, Wisconsin, held a special place in Sally’s heart. So, naturally, a celebration of Sally’s life will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 217 Houston St., Ripon, WI 54971 on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 11:00 am, with Fr. Andy Cruz Lillegard officiating.
Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Ripon following the service. She will be profoundly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society https://www.cancer.org/donate.html in Sally’s name, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others.
