Ruth Miller

June 20, 1926 — April 9, 2017

Ruth L. Miller, age 90, of Green Lake, WI, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at her home.

Ruth was born on June 20, 1926, in Ripon, WI, the daughter of Frederick and Lydia (Stibb) Schultz. She attended school in Ripon. On November 14, 1947, Ruth married Milton Miller in Sheboygan, WI.

Ruth was blessed with a large family and dedicated her life to helping her children and grandchildren. She never missed sending a card on any of their birthdays. She passed along her love of playing a variety of games, teaching all her children and grandchildren how to play cribbage. Family holidays consisted of 30 plus people where all meals began with “nascheri,” the German word for snacking and it was tradition that Ruth would say grace in German. Each Christmas her children and grandchildren looked forward to her unique Christmas gifts, having a theme each year. Ruth had a lifelong love of dancing and taught all 5 of her daughters to jitterbug and polka in the family living room.

Ruth had a gift of making people feel welcome and loved to chat with all the customers that visited the Schultz Brothers store in Berlin where she was a clerk for 15 years. She had a kind and loving heart. She had a phrase she taught her kids, “don’t work too hard, just steady,” and tirelessly put everyone’s needs before her own.

Ruth and Milt had a love for camping and traveling. They had many adventures with the various trailers and motor homes they owned over the years. They enjoyed 2 trips to visit Alaska, once on a cruise and another 21 day bus tour to Alaska and back through Canada to Wisconsin. They were members of the Good Sam camping club for over 45 years and made many good friends throughout the years while visiting many campgrounds in the Midwest. They continued camping each summer until 2015.

Ruth is survived by her husband; her children, Joanne (Dan) Cooper of Wautoma, WI, Vicki Likwarz and Timothy (Pat) Miller, both of Ripon, WI, Susan (Peter) Mark of Flushing, NY, Kristine (Larry) Herrell of Green Lake, WI, Debra (Jerry) Fleiss of Germantown, WI; grandchildren, Todd (Doreen) Cooper, Shad (Jennifer) Cooper, Wesley (Kelli) Crook, Magan (Salman) Umar, AJ (Kathy) Krause, Patty Miller, Benjamin (Holly) Miller, Julian (Janie) Miller, Elizabeth Miller, Joshua Herrell, Craig Herrell, Lindsay Herrell, Kelly (Brian) Zirbes, Amanda Reich; sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Frederick Schultz, Jr. of Sun Prairie, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steven Miller, and brothers Victor and Lorand Schultz.

A visitation for Ruth will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at The Federated Church of Green Lake, 489 Scott Street, Green Lake, WI, 54941.

A memorial service for Ruth will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at The Federated Church of Green Lake, with Reverend Karen Gygax Rodriguez officiating. Memorials in her name may be made to the church.

Ruth will be greatly missed by her husband and family. Her favorite prayer was, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”
