Ruby Vollbrecht

October 3, 1926 — January 15, 2023

Ruby Angela Vollbrecht, age 96 years, 3 months and 12 days, of Ripon, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Maplecrest Manor in Ripon.

Ruby was born on October 3, 1926 in rural Rush Lake, WI, daughter of Frank and Edna (Zamzow) Zech. She graduated from Brandon High School in 1944. On March 16, 1946, she married Walter A. Vollbrecht at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Brandon, WI. She was a Domestic Engineer and also worked in many factories during her lifetime. She helped her husband on their farm as well, where they raised Half-Arabian horses. Ruby was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #378, Mattox-Henslin, Brandon-Fairwater, WI. She was a Sunday School teacher and helped with Vacation Bible School. Ruby loved to do needle crafts and sing and dance to Polka music. She retired to Roswell, NM, and later moved to Littlefield, TX. Ruby had a very rewarding life with God’s Blessing. Ruby was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Littlefield, TX, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Levelland, TX, and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon, WI.

Ruby is survived by her nieces and nephews; and special friends, Michael and Shirley Wendt and their children, and Tom and Melanie Simpkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Edna Zech; husband, Walter Vollbrecht; sisters, Edythe (Glenn) Schattschnieder, Grace (Albert) Schattschnieder, and Vera (John) Wepner; brother, David (Joyce) Zech; sister-in-law, Merlyn (Alfred “Buzz”) Radke; and brothers-in-law, Marvin (Shirley) Vollbrecht and Carlye (Hazel) Vollbrecht.

A private interment will be held at Rosendale Cemetery, Rosendale, WI on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

A funeral service for family and friends of Ruby will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 430 W. Griswold St., Ripon, WI 54971, with Rev. Melissa Hrdlicka officiating. Ruby’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Maplecrest Manor as well as SSM Health at Home Hospice for their wonderful care of Ruby over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruby’s name may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
