Roy E. Kallio, 75, of Ripon, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Parkview Care Center after a Iengthly illness.
He was born June 10, 1924, in Iron Co., Ml, the 2nd son of Henry Kallio (aka: Wiljo Heikki Ritakallio) and Lydia Maki Kallio (aka: Lyyti Euhfemia Teivaanmaki). He was educated in Alpha, Ml schools, Gogebic Jr. College, Ironwood, Ml, Gradwahl School of Laboratory Medicine in St. Louis, MO, and was both certified and registered as laboratory and x-ray technician. Roy married Audrey J. Slater in Canton, IL on Feb. 9, 1952. He and his family moved to Ripon in 1958, and he was employed at Ripon Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1985.
Roy served a term on the Ripon Board of Health for the 4th Ward 1964-68, Life Membership of Ripon Historical Society, and past member of Oshkosh Fine Arts Society. He served in the CCC, World War II 602nd Camouflage Engineers, ETO, and he earned his private pilots license after military service.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Kallio; 2 daughters, Rachel (John) Gertler, Lincoln City, OR, and Nancy (Dr. Hollis Fritts Jr.) Kallio, Excelsior, MN; 3 sons, David (Jean) Kallio, Merrill, Robert Kallio, Sea Bright, NJ, and John Jack (Kathy) Kallio, Princeton; 10 grandchildren; 1 nephew, Bill KaIlio, Crystal Falls, Ml; and several cousins in Finland. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Raymond Kallio of Crystal Falls, Ml.
Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon, with the Rev. David Busker officiating. A visitation will be from 9 AM until the time of the service. lnurnment with military rites will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
