Robert “Bob” Walter Thom, age 77, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022 at home with his family surrounding him in love.
Bob was born in Grafton, ND on October 1, 1944, son of Walter and Margaret (Shambaugh) Thom. He grew up on a wheat/cattle farm on the North Dakota and Canadian border. He was already rebuilding truck engines at 12 years old and especially enjoyed working on tractors. His passion continued into his career as a cutting-edge marine tooling engineer at Mercury Marine. Bob met the love of his life, Claudia Kielisch, in 1965 and later married in 1968 in the historic Spurgeon Chapel at the Green Lake Conference Center. They started their family in Cedarburg, WI, and then moved to Ripon, WI, in 1980. He was a devoted family man who celebrated many family traditions including “family night,” boating on the lake, Sunday naps, sit down family meals with prayer time, and laying out stockings full of goodies on Christmas Eve for his children. Bob was a proud member of the Cedarburg Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing and boating, bicycling, down hill skiing and ice skating, wilderness shows on TV, attending church, sit down meals with his family, and rebuilding car engines. He had a love for rock ‘n’ roll, German Shepherds, anything science fiction, and loved dressing in style. Bob will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife, Claudia Thom; children, Jason (Julie) Thom, Sahnya (partner, Ana Aviña) Thom, Joslyn (partner, David Dolata) Thom-Callegari, Alicia Thom, and Anina (Karl) Thom-Reinhart; grandchildren, Madalyn Thom, Spencer Thom, Tahlia Callegari, Calista Callegari, Evelyn Reinhart, and Fiona Reinhart; great-granddaughter, Saskia Floyd; his brother, Terry (Sharon) Thom; his sister, Susan (Doug) Steltz; several nephews and a niece; and many friends and his church family.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at The Federated Church of Green Lake, 489 Scott St., Green Lake, WI 54941.
A celebration of life for Bob will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at The Federated Church of Green Lake, with Rev. Karen Gygax Rodriguez officiating. A memorial is being established in his name.
