Robert Shrader

April 19, 1951 — December 3, 2020

Robert “Bob” Joseph Shrader, 69, of Ripon, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, due to complications from COVID-19. Bob managed his illness with strength and grace, just as he approached all of life’s experiences. In his final hours, he was surrounded by the love of his wife and daughters.

Bob was born on April 19, 1951 in Princeton, West Virginia, the son of the late William and Dorothy Shrader.

Bob lived a life of adventure and service to others. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army from 1971 to 1974, before working as a salesman at various car dealerships. He then served as a Sergeant for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections until his retirement in 2014, when he became the official “Pumpkin Patch Manager” for his grandbabies.

On February 11, 1984, he was united in marriage to Bonnie (Scharringhausen) at Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in Elk Grove, Illinois. Together they enjoyed fall drives, weekend vacations, time outside together, and most of all, spoiling their grandsons.

One of Bob’s biggest accomplishments and greatest joys was being a father and grandfather, better known as “Papa.” He was blessed with three children, William, Amanda, and Michelle, as well as three grandsons, Ben (7), Jacob (7), and Logan (3). His children considered their father their rock and superhero, even as they grew into adults. He taught his children to be strong and to enjoy every moment life has to offer.

Bob especially loved being Papa to his grandsons. He was always known to watch the best cartoons, provide adventurous ATV rides, and give the biggest bear hugs.

In his retirement, Bob found a passion for photography, capturing life’s precious moments, as well as volunteering with the Badger State Chapter 82nd Airborne Division Association. He enjoyed being a pool shark, watching the Chicago Bears, hunting, and traveling with his family.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Bonnie; children William (Christi) Shrader with Ben, Amanda (Chad) Ziesemer with Jacob and Logan, and Michelle (Brandon) Cedarblade; his siblings Doris (Wes) Milam, Brenda (Billy) Ball, Larry Shrader, Roger Shrader, Ernest Shrader; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tom and Pam Bauch; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy (Baker) Shrader; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Marian Scharringhausen; as well as his siblings, Tommy Shrader, Driscella Shrader, and Michael Shrader.

Visitation for Bob will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, from 10 – 11:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church, 500 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971. Social distancing will be observed and masks are required.

Funeral Service for Bob will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at 11:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church in Ripon with Reverend Bryan Fritsch officiating. His service will be livestreamed and you may view Bob’s service at https://www.facebook.com/MessiahRipon at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon with a Final Salute with Military Funeral Honors. A memorial is being established in his name.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at both Ripon Medical Center and Theda Clark Medical Center. They would also like to thank the community for their continued prayers and support. They rest assured that Bob is in good hands with his Heavenly Father.
