Robert Heuer Johnson, age 85, of Pickett, WI, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at his home with family by his side.
Bob was born on August 4, 1931, in Oshkosh, WI, the son of Irvin W. and Hedwig (Heuer) Johnson. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in Oshkosh, WI in 1949. In November of 1950, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy as a War Naval Airmen and was stationed in Okinawa Japan. During the next four years, Bob flew 52 Combat Missions in a
P-2V Neptune over Korea, and then was stationed in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands for the 1st H-Bomb Test. His squadron was VP-29. In the fall of 1954, he was honorably discharged and came back to the Oshkosh area.
Bob worked for Barr Market in Winneconne as a butcher where he learned his trade. In 1956, he then went to work for Seboras Piggly Wiggly in Oshkosh until 1964 when he started his own business of Johnson Custom Meats in Pickett. Bob was a past member and Chief of the Utica Fire Department from 1966 to 1973. During this time he also farmed and continued to do so until 1976, and then went to work at the Fond du Lac Post Office as a rural letter carrier, retiring in 1994. He was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Pickett.
Bob remarried on January 17, 1981 to Patricia Burroughs in Fond du Lac, WI. They loved traveling, visiting places like Maine, Alaska, Colorado, Texas, Florida, California and all in between. Other activities they enjoyed together were boating, fishing and snowmobiling. They traveled up North to races and to camp, play cards, and grill out. Bob also loved tinkering with anything outside or in his work shop along with spending time with his children and his grandchildren.
Robert is survived by the mother of his children, Doloris Johnson of Oshkosh, WI; sons, JJ Johnson of Pickett, WI and Gregory (Lynda) Johnson of Pickett, WI; daughter, June (Les) Achterberg of Ripon, WI; step-sons, Orren M. (Candace) Burroughs III of Fond du Lac, WI, Brian (Sandy) Burroughs of Kingman, AZ, Bruce (Dee) Burroughs of Rosendale, WI, Dean (Bridgid) Burroughs of Ballwin, MO, Dale (Virg) Burroughs of Riverside, CA, Patrick (Missy) Burroughs of Wiseman, AK and Rick Burroughs of Wiseman, AK and one step-daughter, Pam (Bryan) Green of Brenham, TX. Bob is further survived by 17 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Grandchildren are Melinda (Johnson) Miller, Nathan Johnson, Samantha Morey, Cory, Stacy, John, Madison, Meaghan, Longi, Josh, Rachael, Carl, Nathan, Kasandra and Rikki Burroughs, Ashley Williams and Matthew Green. In addition, Bob is survived by one sister, Dorothy Troller of Madison, WI and nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia; brother, Charles Johnson; sister-in-law, Irene Johnson; niece, Karen (Johnson) Perdue; brother-in-law, Robert Troller; step-daughter, Linda Marie Burroughs; grandsons, Jamie Lee and Jason Burroughs; granddaughter, Ann Marie Burroughs, mother and father-in-law, John L. and Gladys Glidden Grotton and Bill and Mina Katzur.
Visitation for Robert Johnson will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 9:00 am 12:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 502 County Road M, Pickett, WI 54964.
Funeral Service for Robert Johnson will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 12:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church in Pickett. Pastor Jud Krohn will officiate. Interment will take place at Zoar Cemetery in the Town of Rosendale with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church, 502 County Road M, Pickett, WI 54964 or the Utica Volunteer Fire Department, 1730 County Road FF, Oshkosh, WI 54904.
