Robert "Bob" Rosenberg

Robert “Bob” W. Rosenberg, age 85, was called to his eternal home on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. He was born on December 15, 1931, at home in Clintonville, Wisconsin, to Erwin and Erna (Krohn) Rosenberg. He was baptized at St. Martin Evangelical Lutheran Church and attended St. Martin Lutheran Elementary School for 8 years and Clintonville High School. After graduation in 1949 he attended UW-Oshkosh and graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He later earned a Master of Science degree at UW-Madison.

From 1953-1955 Bob served in the U.S. Navy aboard the heavy cruiser USS Des Moines.

On June 9, 1956, Robert married Carol Zeinert, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Neenah, WI. They had three children, Peter, Lyn, and Ann. They also had an AFS son, Uli Morlock, from Germany.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Carol of more than 61 years, son Peter (Lisa) Rosenberg of Bellingham, WA; daughters Lyn (Tim) McCarthy of Mequon, WI and Ann Rosenberg of Neenah, WI. “Poppy” is also survived by granddaughters Sarah and Katie McCarthy; and his AFS son Uli (Petra) Morlock of Germany. He is further survived by his brother-in-law Ron (Carolyn) Cattau of Columbus, NE and sisters-in-law Dorothy of Shawano, WI; Glenda of Madison, WI; and Kathy of Bella Vista, AR. In addition he is survived by his brother-in-law John Zeinert and sister-in-law Pat Zeinert, along with nieces, nephews, and friends; especially his dear friends, the Morlock and Griesinger families of Ispringen, Germany and the extended Symonds family of Wynyard, Tasmania, Australia.

Bob was predeceased by his parents Erwin and Erna, brothers Carl, Raymond, Eugene, Roger, and David, and sisters Phyllis Backer and Marlene Cattau. He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law Robert Backer and sister –in-law Phyllis Rosenberg, brother-in-law Paul Zeinert and sister-in-law Karen Zeinert.

Robert taught students in Kiel, WI for six years and then served as principal and teacher for the Ripon Public Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1991.

Over the years Bob was active in Mt. Zion Ev. Lutheran Church and held a variety of offices. He enjoyed singing in church choirs for 66 years, the Ripon College Choral Union for 38 years, and in barbershop choruses for a number of years. Bob volunteered many years with the American Red Cross, was on the Ripon Board of Review for 9 years, was treasurer of the South Woods Park Association for 24 years, and on the Russell Manor Board for 12 years. In addition Bob was active for many years with the AFS International student exchange program.

Bob enjoyed watching his children and granddaughters’ school events, traveling, playing cards (especially Sheepshead), reading, cooking, and watching various sports. He was a loyal Ripon Tigers and Red Hawks fan and he attended the Wisconsin Boy’s State Basketball Tournament for 65 years.

Bob will be dearly missed by his relatives and friends. Memorials may be donated on Bob’s behalf to Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ripon College Fine Arts, South Woods Park Association, or AFS International.

Visitation for Bob will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017, at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 320 Mt. Zion Drive, Ripon, WI 54971, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Michael Sheppard officiating. Visitation at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon.
