Richard Roeming

July 7, 1935 — November 14, 2022

Richard “Dick” L. Roeming, age 87, of Brandon, WI, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022, at Charleston House Memory Care in Beaver Dam, WI.

Dick was born on July 7, 1935 in Milwaukee, WI, son of Edward and Esther (Nehring) Roeming.  He graduated from Ripon High School and attended Ripon College for one year. His career included working with his father and brother at the family-owned foundry in Fairwater, as timekeeper on the construction site for UW-Oshkosh, and as a purchasing agent for Giddings and Lewis. He helped to launch the purchasing department for Fond du lac County and then served in new products development at J.J. Keller in Appleton prior to his retirement in 1997.

He was married for 63 years to the former Carol Margers of Brandon until her death in 2019. Together they enjoyed hosting cookouts by the pool, shopping for bargains and spending time with family. When his grandchildren were young, Dick went so far as to travel to Brazil to see them.

Dick loved to design, build and fix things. He lived most of his adult life in the house that he and his father-in-law built with their own hands. After tinkering for well over a year, he restored a 1941 Ford into running condition. He loved finding “beater” vehicles and keeping them going as long as possible.

He was a devoted Christian and member of Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon where over the years he served as Sunday school teacher, Deacon, Elder and chair of several committees. He served for many years on the local School Board, Agnesian Hospital Board, Waupun Truckers Jamboree committee, Brandon Historical Society, and Brandon Village Board. Dick enjoyed singing and enjoyed performing with the church men’s choir as well as in local music theater. Later in his life, he served as a committed hospice volunteer with Agnesian Health Care.

His other interests included golf (watching AND playing), football (cheering for the Packers as his wife cheered against them), baseball and basketball. He loved swimming and was in his backyard pool nearly every day during the summer months. He loved to impersonate Santa Clause during the holidays, visiting day care centers, eldercare facilities, family parties and anywhere else he was invited. In fact, he had begun growing in his “Santa beard” to do so at Charleston House even as his health declined.

Dick is survived by his son, Lawrence “Larry” Roeming of Hartford, CT, daughter, Rhonda (Reverend Chris) Johnson of Monroe, WI; two grandchildren, Dr. Gabriel (Joy) Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD and Ruthie Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; four great-grandchildren, Micah, Levi, Kiran and Mira Johnson; a brother, Roy Roeming, of Oshkosh, WI; and a brother-in-law, Ken Margers, of Brandon, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Esther Roeming, his sister Carol (Roeming) Kirst and his wife, Carol Ann (Margers) Roeming.

A memorial service for Richard will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon, with Pastor John Tilstra officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. (Guests are invited to join the family at a luncheon in the church basement following the service.)
