Dick was born September 12, 1934 in Ripon, WI, son of Richard and Mildred (Rivers) Harvey. He graduated Ripon High School in 1952 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison Farm and Industry Short Course Program. In retirement he enjoyed traveling. He and Joyce purchased a RV and spent many years visiting all 49 states. He pointed out there was not a bridge, so he could not drive to Hawaii. Dick and Joyce became “snowbirds” for many years wintering in Florida. He enjoyed coming back to Wisconsin each year to continue to plant his corn fields, work in his large garden, hunt, help grandchildren with 4-H projects and take them fishing.

“I farmed the land, I tramped the wood, these are things I understood. No grand schemes, they passed me by. I knew the brook, the hills, the sky. To hunt a bird, to wet a line, gifts from god, so good and fine. Friend and kin, I loved them so. Although I’m gone, I’m sure they know, I’m now at peace, life’s battle done, I’ve faced the foe and I have won.”
