Phyllis Asplund Laper, age 86, of Ripon, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.
Phyllis was born on August 14, 1921 on the Friberg Family Farm in Florence, WI, the daughter of Sigfred and Edith (Friberg) Asplund. Phyllis graduated from Florence High School and went on to graduate from Whitewater State College (UW-Whitewater). Prior to her marriage she taught Business Education in Waukesha, WI for 3 years. On August 25, 1945 she married Florian G. Laper and they made their home in Fairwater from 1945 to 1966, where she started her family and raised their children. In 1962 she started teaching at Ripon High School where she taught until her retirement in 1983. Phyllis was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon, Delta Zeta Sorority, and a member and officer of numerous church, community groups and organizations.
Survivors include her husband Florian Laper of Ripon; her children, Patrick (Kathleen) Laper of Rochester, MI, Joanne (Al) Arroyo of Verona, NJ, Peter (Cindy) Laper of Pewaukee, WI; grandchildren, Jesse (Kelly) Arroyo of Rochester, MN, Rebecca (Rick) Harpster of Chicago, IL, Adam Arroyo of Verona, NJ, Chelsey Laper of Pewaukee, WI, Carly Laper of Tacoma, WA, Phillip Laper of Pewaukee, WI; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Liam Arroyo of Rochester, MN; one sister, Alice Kuehn of Fairwater; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Earl; granddaughter, Alison Arroyo and nephew, Jeff Butzin.
Visitation for Phyllis A. Laper will be held from 4-7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Friends may also call on Thursday at the church from 10-11:00 am.
Funeral service for Phyllis A. Laper will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon with Pastor Maurice A. Schaus officiating. Interment will follow in Fairwater Cemetery, Village of Fairwater, WI. Memorials can be given to Hospice Home of Hope, 400 Hwy K, Fond du Lac, WI 54935 or Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon.
