Paul Gustafson, age 81, of Green Lake, WI, passed away on December 4, 2017 in Aurora, IL.
Paul was born on March, 3, 1936, in Chicago, IL, the son of Melvin and Ruth Gustafson. On June 21, 1959, he married Judy Peterson, after they met in college. He received his BA from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, and his MBA from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Paul was employed by Sears Roebuck and Co. for 32 years in various executive positions. Having bought property in Green Lake in 1971 he and his wife retired there in 1992, and had lived in Arlington Heights, IL, up until that point.
Paul believed in the Rotary theme of “Service Above Self”. In Illinois he was president of the Jaycees, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served as the Chairman of the church. After moving to Green Lake he served 3 terms on the Green Lake County Board and was chairman of several committees. He was also on the Board of the Green Lake Association, belonged to the Ripon and Green Lake Rotary and served as President of the Green Lake chapter. He was active at Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon. He sang in the choir, served on many committees and was President of the Council. He was a very ethical and well-respected man. Among his other activities were bowling in the Green Lake Senior league, golfing and of course, he loved boating on Green Lake.
Paul is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy of Green Lake; two daughters, Leah of Aurora, IL, and Dr. Karin Gustafson-Williams (Edward) of Yorkville, IL, and one son, Paul (Sue) of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Michael Williams and Sienna and Peyton Gustafson; and one brother, Phillip (Nancy) of Buda, TX. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mark.
A visitation for Paul will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 430 W. Griswold St., Ripon, WI, 54971.
A memorial service for Paul will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon, with Reverend Clay R. Salmela officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or to Season’s Hospice Care at 606 Potter Rd., Des Plaines, IL, 60016.
