Patrick Kelly Wyer, age 67, of Fond du Lac, WI, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
Patrick was born August 12, 1950 in Neillsville, WI, the son of John T., Jr. and Shirley M. (Gault) Wyer. He was raised in Neillsville until the age of 13 when the family moved to Ripon, WI which then became his home for a good part of his life. Pat lived and worked in Ripon until the mid 1990's when his deteriorating mental health required the support of the Fond du Lac County Mental Health services. He has resided in Fond du Lac since then and moved to his lovely St. Peter's Place apartment 4 years ago where he found much enjoyment living in his beautiful home there.
Patrick struggled with Schizo-Affective Disorder beginning in his early 20's and through constant effort and the strong support of the Fond du Lac Mental Health community and his church friends he was able to live an independent life until his death. He was a member of Holy Family Sacred Heart Parish in Fond du Lac and was a Lay Franciscan.
Patrick was a deeply spiritual man who prayed continually for his fellow sojourners and those he had known who had died. His effort to live an authentic life of prayer and service touched those who knew him. He joined the Army as a medic in 1969 during the Vietnam War and when he found out he needed to carry a weapon, applied for, and was granted a Conscientious Objector Honorable Discharge nine months later which was rarely given during that conflict.
Patrick is survived by his son Casey Wyer of Fond du Lac, WI; and his sisters, Michele Benson of Ripon, WI, Valerie Wyer and Ken Then of Sun Prairie, WI, Jackie Wyer of Las Cruces, NM and sister-in-law, Sheila Wyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Shirley Wyer; and his younger brother Sean Wyer. His daily living was assisted with great care and kindness by his Holy Family friend, Lisa, and FDL County Representative, Shirley, and many others whom, we his family, may not know. However, we are eternally grateful for their love and generosity towards Patrick. His difficult life was made so much easier by the many who actively supported him throughout his years in Fond du Lac and especially these past 13 years when he had moved out of a group home and was living by himself. Thank you for the blessing each of you were to Patrick. You were his important Fond du Lac family.
