Orice Odie W. Hammen, age 81, of Pickett, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer, at his home surrounded by his family.
Orice was born in Ripon, on March 17, 1928, to Louis and Alvina (Hannemann) Hammen. He graduated from Ripon High School, and in 1948 he married Mary Kay Hobbs in Our Saviours United Church of Christ in Ripon. Orice was a crop farmer, and owned the Hammen Sod farm in Pickett, with his brother Marty. He was a member of the Pickett Lions, Our Saviours Church (Church Council, Trust Committee, usher, greeter), Builders, Volunteer fireman, poker club, Ducks Unlimited, Sod Growers Assoc., and the M&I Bank Board of Directors. Orice loved to boat, fish, hunt, golf, drive the back roads, play Texas hold em and Omaha Hi-Low.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Kay Hammen of Pickett; four daughters, Kathy Ryan of Ripon, Holly (Jay) Clarke of Ripon, Julie (Dave) Ninnemann of Neenah, and Peggy Motiff of Madison; nine grandchildren, Melissa and Mandy Ryan, Andy Clarke, Sarah (Brad) Foskett, Mary Belling, Jenny and Adam Ninnemann, Robyn and Justin Sager; five great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Max Belling, Ethan Clarke, Nash and Linc Foskett; one brother, Martin Hammen of Ripon, nephews and cousins. Orice was preceded in death by his parents, Alvina and Louis Hammen.
Visitation for Orice Hammen will be held on Friday, May 8, 2009, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Our Saviours United Church of Christ in Ripon.
Funeral Service for Orice Hammen will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009, at Our Saviours United Church of Christ in Ripon, with the Reverend Mark R. West officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Fairwater Cemetery at a later date. Memorials can be given to Our Saviours United Church of Christ, 343 Scott Street, Ripon, WI 54971 or to Affinity Hospice Hope, 816 W. Winneconne Ave., Neenah, WI 54956.
Orices sense of humor, determination and lively spirit will be remembered always.
