Nicole Moniz

June 4, 1984 — August 21, 2021

Nicole Rashell Moniz, age 37, of Ripon, WI, passed into God’s waiting arms on Saturday, August 21, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 4, 1984, at Berlin Hospital, to Rick and Becky (Ebert) Koon. Nicole grew up in Ripon. As a child, she loved dance lessons and participated in the Ripon High School Dance Team. Nicole played piano, played softball and taught Sunday School as a teenager at Grace Lutheran Church. After graduating from Ripon High School in 2002, she and her future husband, Tom Moniz, attended UW Stevens Point, where she majored in social work. She and Tom married on August 6, 2005, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Ripon. While Tom attended law school in Milwaukee, Nicole began her professional life helping others as a match specialist at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Milwaukee.

Tom and Nicole chose to return to Ripon to pursue their careers and raise a family in the small town where they had loved growing up. Nicole coached tennis for a time, and she worked as a social worker at Lakeland Care, where she made her clients’ lives better, a stressful but rewarding position.

Nicole was happiest doing for others. Whether planning a big celebration or sending a loving text message, her passion was bringing joy to those blessed to know and love her. Her heart was meant for giving without measure. Tom and her boys were the center of her universe. She was never known to speak ill of anyone nor hold a grudge. She spent untold hours planning celebrations for family and friends. She created an amazing learning environment at home for the boys during the Covid lockdown, saying it was in many ways the happiest time of her life because of the hours spent with her family. She also loved supporting her boys’ athletic endeavors and spending hours on Green Lake in their boat. She loved Jesus and was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Ripon. Supporting our downtown businesses was a passion of hers. She loved to cook and fully embraced the challenges of cooking gluten free for Tom and Carter. With a heart of gold and a wonderful sense of humor, she always laughed hard when recalling funny family stories. Her smile was one in a million.

Her father said she lived every day paying life forward. She will be missed for her gorgeous smile that revealed her unique inner beauty. Her soul found its meaning in giving. Those who knew Nicole knew a rare and gentle kindness. She will leave a huge loss for all who knew her, but her loved ones will find some peace in continuing to share her special light by seeing the good in others. Her last gift to others in this life was to give the gift of life itself through organ donation.

Nicole is survived by her beloved husband, Tom; ten-year-old son, Jack; seven-year-old son, Carter; parents, Rick and Becky Koon of Ripon; brother, Evan (Britney) of Nags Head, NC; maternal grandmother, Cindy Ebert of Ripon; in-laws, Tom Moniz (special friend Carol Pick) of Oshkosh, WI and Penny Moniz (fiancé Jim Allard) of Ripon; brother-in-law, Adam (Melissa) Parchim of West Bend, WI; and niece and nephew, Emma and Reid Parchim. Nicole is further survived by many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Fritz Ebert, formerly of Ripon; and her paternal grandparents, Joe and Betty Koon, formerly of Bear Lake, MI.
