Nancy Hynes

June 15, 1916 — June 3, 2022

Nancy Lewis (Cody) Hynes of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina died on Friday, June 3, 2022, twelve days before her 106th birthday.

Nancy was a beautiful woman and led a full, active life. She spent every summer at Green Lake, Wisconsin since her birth in 1916. She traveled to six of the seven continents. In her prime, Nancy was a competitive sailor and an enthusiastic tennis player and skier. She was a member of the Junior League of Evanston and the Chicago chapter of the Colonial Dames of America. She was a founding supporter of the Green Lake Festival of Music and she was active in her church. Nancy loved to entertain; family and friends were of utmost importance to her. She was a connector who kept in touch with friends from Evanston, Ripon, Green Lake, Winnetka, Glenview, Hilton Head Island, Roycemore School, and Northwestern University.

Nancy is survived by her children Harry Lewis Cody (Nancy), Robert Cody (Melanie), Frances Aubrey, Carol Yost (Casimir) and Arthur Hynes, and by eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands Harry Arthur Cody, Jr. in 1958 and James Aubrey Hynes in 2014.

A private burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Ripon, Wisconsin. A celebration of her life will be held at Green Lake later this summer. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nancy’s honor may be made to The Green Lake Festival of Music or The Thrasher Opera House.
