Milton O. Wood, age 87, of Ripon, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, September 4, 2010, at his home in Ripon.
Milton was born on June 11, 1923 in Brownsville, WI the son of Leslie F. and Margaret A.(McClean) Wood. He attended school in Oakfield, WI. On March 9, 1946, he married Dorothy L. Wilhems in Fond du Lac, WI. Milt served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater. He was a job superintendent for CD Smith and CR Meyer, from which he retired. Volunteering was a very important part of Milts life. He was a Boy Scout Master for Troop 37, was on the Board of Directors for the Ripon Area Service Center, was past president of the Eagles Club of Ripon, volunteered at Ripon Hospital, and was a member of the VFW. He was also very involved with the Lions Club and was a Life Member of Ripon Lions Club, where he held numerous positions within the Lions Club; he was Past President, Zone Chairman, District Governor, and spent 6 years as the Wisconsin Lions Foundation Director. Milt was also a Melvin Jones and Birch-Sturm Fellow as well as a Guiding Lion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed his trips to the casino and watching the Packers and Brewers when he had the chance. Milt was a member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ in Ripon, and the Ushers Club at the church. He enjoyed his many visits with his great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his children; Linda (Fred) Neuenfeldt, David (Kaye) Wood, and daughter-in-law, Pat Wood, all of Ripon, and a special daughter, Yukiko Yoshino of Tokoyo, Japan, his grandchildren; Wade (Kim) Packard, Sarah (Dave) Oberneder, Chad (Cathy) Packard, Nicole (Tim) Langenfeld, Anne (special friend Tim Smith) Honor, Adam (Leslie) Wood, and Kim Wood, and the littlest loves of his life, his great-grandchildren; Allyssa, Kylee, Zachary, Blake, Ryan, Gracie, Chandler, Matthew, Harley, Tommy, and Katie. He is also survived by several brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and special friends; Giles and Maureen Fisch and Norm Raaske. Milt was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years, Dorothy L. Wood, one son, Leslie F. Wood, one infant grandson, Matthew, one twin brother, one sister, and numerous in-laws and other relatives.
Visitation for Milton O. Wood will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, with a Lions Club service held at 7:00 p.m. There will also be a visitation on Thursday, September 9, 2010, from 10-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Services for Milton O. Wood will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, with Reverend Mark R. West officiating. Interment will follow in Loper Cemetery, in the Town of Ripon, where full Military Honors will be conducted. Memorials can be given to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation Inc. or to Lions Pride, 3834 County Road A, Rosholt, WI 54473-9335.
