Melvin Berndt

Melvin “Hezzy” Harold Berndt, age 95, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at Ripon Community Hospital.

Melvin was born November 25, 1925, in Ripon, WI, the son of Herman and Florence (Gatzke) Berndt. He served our country in the United States Navy from March 27, 1944 to May 7, 1946. After coming home from the Navy, Melvin married Lorraine Link on December 28, 1946. He worked as a foreman for Admanco in Ripon for over 25 years and then he became employed as a maintenance man for Ripon College where he retired from. Melvin was a member of V.F.W. Schultz-Klemp-Wentland Post #5278 and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his four children, Steven (LuAnne) Berndt, Debra Boers, Roxann Stracy and John (Bonnie) Berndt all of Ripon, WI; seven grandchildren, Cody (Misty) Boers, Krisann Stracy, Pamela (Dave) Barberri, Melissa (Josh) Huisman, Jill (Mike) Schmudlach, Angela Jensen and Brad (Tonia) Larschied; 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lorraine Berndt; grandchild, Matthew Boers; two sons-in-law, Roger Boers and Ronald Stracy and brothers and a sister.

A private memorial service for Melvin will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at 11:00 am at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon with Reverend Kevin P. Mundell officiating. Inurnment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with a Final Salute with Military Funeral Honors. A memorial is being established in his name.
