Maurice Eugene Morgan, age 96, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Markesan Resident Home.
Maurice was born December 31, 1921, at home, in Rosendale Center to Ira James and Katie Margaret Elizabeth (Oleson) Morgan. On August 25, 1951, he married Lois Ann Rogge at the Division Street Methodist Church in Fond du Lac. Maurice attended Rosendale Center School and graduated from Ripon High School in 1940. After graduating, he went to live on the Oleson homestead on Olden Road, where he farmed the rest of his life. In 1935, he started his music career. Maurice played and entertained with several groups until 2009. In 1943, he also did square dancing. His interests also included serving on various boards and committees. In 1961, he was chosen to serve on the Town of Ripon Board, first as a supervisor and then as chairman for over 44 years. During his position as town chairman, he also served on the Fond du Lac County Board of Supervisors for 10 years. Maurice served as the chairman of the Fond du Lac County Towns Association for 12 years and served as the director on the State Towns Association for 10 years. He was a member of the Ripon Kiwanis Club for 17 years. Maurice was Ripon Commonwealth Press Person of the Year in 2002. In 2003, he was chosen Festmaster over the Riponfest Celebration and the marshal of the parade. He drove school bus for 44 years. Maurice was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon and sang with the choir.
Survivors include his daughter, Kay (Robert) Zahn; daughter-in-law, Kim Morgan; grandchildren, Sarah (Danny) Wollner and James Morgan; great-grandchildren, Xander and Quinn Wollner; step-grandchildren, Greg, Michael and Amy Lauber; niece, Jean and nephew, Tony and foreign exchange students. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois in 2002; son and daughter-in-law, Tom (Sue) Morgan; niece, Barb; nephew, Jack and foreign student, Cyril.
Visitation for Maurice will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018, from 3 – 7:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971 and again on Saturday, December 29, 2018, from 10 – 11:00 am at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 401 W. Fond du Lac St., Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral Service for Maurice will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at 11:00 am at Immanuel United Methodist Church with Reverend George Groves officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon. A memorial is being established in his name.
