Mary Jo Oesterreich (nee Mathia), age 59, of Oshkosh, WI, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, WI, with her family by her side.
Mary was born on July 26, 1961 in Ripon, WI, the daughter of Bob and Joan (Schave) Mathia. Mary graduated from Ripon High School, attended college at UW LaCrosse and Moraine Park, worked at many local businesses, and most recently worked at Silver Star Brands. But it was Mary's compassion and empathy caring for others that many will remember her for. She was an in-home caregiver to many people in the Ripon area and provided support to people at the most important and most difficult times of their lives. Mary married Steve Oesterreich in 2011 and together they enjoyed summers at their campsite in Oshkosh with Steve's family and their friends. Mary loved being a grandmother and loved the life she and Steve shared.
Mary is survived by her husband, Steve Oesterreich; step-children, Steven (Edgar) of Colorado, Jessica (Matt) Anderson of Milwaukee, WI, and Jared (Jamie) of Oshkosh, WI; and grandchildren, Raegan and Myles Oesterreich of Oshkosh, WI. She is further survived by parents, Bob and Joan Mathia; her sisters, Laura (Chuck) Chipman, Ann (Mark) Belau, Shelly (Derek) Kastenschmidt; brother, Robb (Molly) Mathia; sister-in-law, Cheryl (Michael) Riley; many nieces; nephews; and cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her mother and father-in-law; her aunt, Georgine Mill; her uncles, Howard Kotlowski and Tom Schave; and her cousin John Mill.
The family would like to thank Mary's friends, Carol, Vicki, her cousin, Jane, and all who took her to treatments and provided unconditional care and love to Mary.
Visitation for Mary will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI, 54971.
A prayer service for Mary will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, with Rev. Davies Edassery officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Town of Ripon, WI. A memorial mass will take place at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Ripon at a later date. A memorial is being established in Mary's name.
