Mary I. Hare, age 88, formerly of Ripon, WI, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017, at The Meadows of Fond du Lac, with her daughter at her side.
Mary was born on November 26, 1928, in the Town of Waupun, WI, the daughter of Herman and Nellie (Gleffe) Sauer, Sr. She graduated from Ripon High School in 1946. On January 10, 1948, she married Leland E. Hare in Dalton, WI. Mary continued to keep the farm going after he passed away on August 7, 1980. Mary was a member of Ripon Baptist Church. She loved to read and enjoyed making quilts. She made many quilts for charity. Mary also loved her dogs and feeding the birds.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Steve) Auchtung of Oakfield, WI, Barb (Ted) Zempel of Chisago City, MN; her son, Robert (Sue) Hare of Ripon, WI; a brother, Robert Sauer also of Ripon; grandchildren, Dan Zempel, Michel Zempel, Tim Zempel, Ryan Hare, Kayla Hare, and Kyle Hare; and great-grandchildren, Elijah, Allison, Josiah, Jaden, Jude, Titus, and Ezra Zempel . She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland; her daughter Diane (John) Cathman in 2015; her parents, Herman and Nellie; brothers, Ralph Sauer, Lyle Sauer, Lloyd Sauer, and Herman Sauer, Jr.; and sisters, Merle Olsen, Estella Mugridge, Carol Sauer, and Norma Sauer.
A visitation for Mary will be held from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI, 54971.
A funeral service for Mary will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, with Pastor Doug Hanback officiating. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon. Memorials in Mary's name may be directed to the Salvation Army, 237 N. Macy St., Fond du Lac, WI, 54935, or any charity of choice.
