Marilyn Mette

August 4, 1931 — January 24, 2021

Marilyn H. Mette, 89, of Green Lake passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Marilyn was born in central Illinois on the family farm (which remained in her possession), delivered by her grandfather. She spent her early life in Illinois and was initially drawn to vacation in Green Lake for its charm. Soon Green Lake became her home for more than 50 years. Marilyn was a socialite, not only entertaining in her own home, but loved partaking in local food/wine, particularly at Carver’s on the Lake, owned by her beloved partner “Van” VandeStreek. Together they started a local dinner club and in their spare time loved to travel.

Marilyn was known for her meticulous appearance, beautifully-appointed homes, and generous heart. Marilyn was also an avid sports fan with her prized possession being an autographed tournament flag by Phil Mickelson.

Most important to Marilyn was her family. She was so proud of raising 4 children: Michael Mette (Anne) of Grafton, WI; Janet Bednarek (Alan) of Berlin, WI; Melinda Floros of San Diego, CA; and Sheryl Otto (John) of McFarland, WI. She was affectionately called Gra by her 10 grandchildren: Jason Gasser, Matthew Mette (Melissa), Kimberly Mette, Bryant Bednarek (Jessica), Craig Bednarek (Heidi), Lindsey Hess (Justin), Erin Castellitto (Mark), Ryan Floros (Alora), Brittany Otto (fiancé Brock), and Nathan Otto, as well as 13 great-grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her son Michael and long-time partner Van. Marilyn loved and collected angels and cardinals, as they were special symbols in her life. Her family and friends now know that she has become a loving angel watching over them.

The family would like to thank ThedaCare At Home services for their attentive care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to her two favorite charities: stjude.org or boystown.org.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be planned for a future date.
