Lura Whitney, age 92, presently of Green Lake Manor, formerly of rural Ripon, passed away Friday, April 14, 2006 at Green Lake Manor.
She was born June 27, 1913, in Wisconsin, a daughter to Herman and W. Floy (Gilbert) Kemnitz. On November 17, 1934 she married Glenn M. Whitney in Fond du Lac County; they resided on the Whitney farm on Olden Road their entire married life. Lura resided in the Ripon area her entire life, until moving to Green Lake Manor last year. She graduated from Ripon High School and was a housewife. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church of Ripon, where she belonged to the Mary Martha Circle, and was a past member of The Ripon Historical Society, The Rosendale Center Womans Club, and Rosendale Center Homemakers Club. She also served as an election clerk for The Town of Rosendale.
Survivors include her daughter, Georgene (Martin) Vinz of Ripon; grandchildren, Susan (Alex) Cohen of Ripon and Richard (Tracy) Vinz of Oshkosh; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends and relatives. Lura was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Evelyn Cavert, and brother Graydon Kemnitz.
VISITATION: For Lura Whitney will be Tuesday, April 18, 2006, from 5:00 7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.
FUNERAL SERVICE: For Lura Whitney will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, with the Rev. Paul W. Nulton officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in the Rosendale Cemetery, Village of Rosendale. A memorial has been established.
