Lester Schwandt Jr.

Lester L. Schwandt Jr., 78 of Ripon, WI, Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
Lester was born January 28, 1939 in Brandon, WI, the son of Lester L. Sr. and Ruby (Hahn) Schwandt. Lester was a 1956 graduate of Ripon High School. On September 19, 1959, he married Doris M. Petig at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Berlin, WI. After working various jobs in Ripon, he started his real job in 1961 for Gross Common Carrier trucking. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Local 200 and retired under a 30-year Contributory Pension from Gross in 1991. The next ten years he was employed by Lawsonia Golf Course after which full retirement became his new norm. In his younger years Les enjoyed playing softball. He also was a dedicated dart ball player up until last year when illness made it difficult. Les was an avid outdoorsman who liked to hunt and fish in all the four seasons. His happiest times were spent on his tractor working the soil, putting in food plots, planting his vegetable gardens and his many flower beds. Les was an active lifetime member of Our Saviour’s U.C.C. He was on the usher team and helped on different projects when needed.
Les is survived by his wife of 57 years Doris; son Kelly (Terri) Schwandt of Ripon WI., daughter Kerry (Dennis) Respalje of Brandon WI. and son Kurt (Lisa) Schwandt of Ripon,WI; grandchildren Matt (Jen) Schwandt of Oshkosh, WI., Katie Schwandt of Ripon, WI., Cory (Lizzy) Respalje of Urbana, IA., Gabby Schwandt of Ripon, WI, and Andi Schwandt of Ripon, WI.; a sister Carolyn Plagenz of Markesan, WI. a sister-in-law Barbara Schwandt of Ripon, WI. a brother-in-law Leon (Linda) Petig of Stevens Point, WI, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Lester and Ruby, a brother, Gerald Schwandt and brother-in-law, Walter Plagenz, Jr.
Visitation for Lester Schwandt will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, from 9-11:00 am at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, 343 Scott St., Ripon, WI.
Funeral Service for Lester Schwandt will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at 11:00 am at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ of Ripon. Reverend Dr. Kevin P. Mundell will be officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon. A memorial has been established.
The family expresses their sincere thanks to the doctors at the Michael D. Wachtel Cancer Center of Oshkosh. A special thank you to nurse Megan, Dr. Heraly, and the wonderful support from Affinity Visiting Nurses, especially his friendly nurse Carrie.
