Leland W. Cornwell, age 91, of Ripon, WI, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at ThedaCare Medical Center in Berlin, WI.
Leland was born on August 17, 1934, in Hillsboro, WI, son of late Earl and Meta (Dutzle) Cornwell. Leland proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. On June 9, 1956, Leland married the love of his life, Ruth Kuehl, in Stanley, WI. Leland worked as a semi truck driver in his earlier years. He then worked for Speed Queen in Ripon for 45 years. Leland enjoyed spending his time outdoors, fishing, snowmobiling, and bird watching, as well as playing cards, bingo, and listening and dancing to polka music.
Leland is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth; two daughters, Charlene and Diana Cornwell, of Ripon, WI; grandchildren, Bobbi Jo (Aaron), Brent (special friend, Michelle), Daniel, Dawn (Nick), and Danielle (Ben); great-grandchildren, Quinten, Autumn, Alaina, Adam, Evelyth, and Gideon; sisters, Lois and Phyllis; a sister-in-law, Debra; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 siblings, many in-laws, and numerous beloved dogs and cats.
Visitation for Leland will be held from 9:30 am until 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Grace Lutheran Church, 430 W. Griswold St., Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon, with Rev. Clay R. Salmela officiating. A final salute and full military honors will take place at the church immediately following the funeral service. Entombment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh, WI. A memorial is being established in his name.
