Lawrence Wurtz

September 18, 1928 — December 30, 2017

Lawrence A. Wurtz, age 89, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, WI.

Lawrence was born in Fond du Lac, WI, on September 18, 1928, the son of Lawrence “Casey” and June (Holterman) Wurtz. Lawrence graduated in 1946, from Waupun High School, where he met the “love of his life” Marian Reddell. After marrying in 1948, they moved to Mayville, WI, where they raised their six children. He worked for Mayville Metal Products Co. as a Paint Department foreman and also served as an alderman for the city of Mayville. Later in life after moving back to Fond du Lac, he made his final career move and became Vice President of Industrial Sales at A.P. Nonweiler Co. in Oshkosh, WI.

Lawrence was active in sports during his younger years (baseball, basketball & football) and his passion carried over to his four sons. One of his greatest joys was traveling to see his sons and grandchildren either play or coach basketball at the high school and/or collegiate level.

Lawrence had many other passions and hobbies (duck hunting, trout fishing, antiquing and music). He was a longtime member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed duck hunting on Rush Lake. Many family memories were shared at the family “Duck Shack”. He also enjoyed trout fishing trips to the upper peninsula of Michigan where his sons & grandsons would join in the annual outing. Lawrence loved music. Music was a central part of his life and he loved music of all kinds. He sang in several barbershop quartets and was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Marian of Ripon, WI; his children, Mark (Cheryl) Wurtz of Sheboygan, WI, Cyndi (Peter) West of Ripon, Ludwig (Jane) Wurtz of Ripon, Lance (Janice) Wurtz of Oshkosh, WI, Lucky (Judy) Wurtz of Fond du Lac, WI; forty-three grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene (Alyce) Wurtz of Mayville, WI and Richard Wurtz of Princeton, WI; a sister, Kate Eineichner of Pewaukee, WI; brother-in-law, Lloyd Musack; and other nieces; nephews; and cousins. Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence “Casey” and June, as well as his beloved step-mother, Alice Wurtz; his daughter, Melinda “Mindy” Wilkes; and one sister, Patricia Musack.

Lawrence was a devoted family man, a cherished husband, father and grandpa. He will be greatly missed but not ever forgotten.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the management & staff at Maplecrest Assisted Care for the love & care provided to Lawrence over the past five years.

A private family memorial service will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018.
