Katherine “Katy” Bur Zeratsky, age 82, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021 with her family by her side.
Katy was born January 4, 1939, in Green Bay, WI, the daughter of Arnold J. and Margaret (Moore) Bur. Katy spent the first chapter of her life surrounded by family in Green Bay. She had fond memories of time spent at Point Sable, Camp Manitowish, and the Oneida Country Club. She made many friends at St. John’s School and later at East High where she graduated in 1957. Green Bay, and the Packers of course, were always an important part of her.
When Katy met Gib, at UW Madison in 1959, the love story of a lifetime began along with a new chapter in Green Lake. As a young mother, she was the heart of her new family and was very involved with the community. Katy was a member of the Dartford Educational Club, the Characters, and the Green Lake Yacht Club, especially the Senior Girls Fleet.
Katy enjoyed the outdoors and shared this love with her children. Fishing. camping, tennis, skiing, boating and adventures in the woods are activities that are warmly remembered. Katy had a way of making you feel at home and provided warm welcomes to many new community members. She was generous, kind, and loyal, but could also be fiercely protective and strong. She shared these qualities and her maternal nature with many beyond just her family.
Together, Katy and Gib always enjoyed traveling. They enjoyed Marco Island, FL so much that they settled in. During their winters there, they made many wonderful friends. Katy greatly enjoyed the water, the sun, and these lasting relationships. Marco Island will always hold special memories.
In Katy’s final chapter, she found joy in the visits from family and friends and the company of her caregivers. The family is immensely grateful to the wonderful women who provided loving care and comfort to Katy. Her loss will be felt by her family and many special friends.
Survivors include two sons, J. Bur (Kelly) Zeratsky, Andrew M. “Drew” (Kathy) Zeratsky, and daughter Gretchen Z (John) Feeney; Grandchildren John (Michelle) Zeratsky, Jennifer (Chris) Conant, August Zeratsky, Emma Zeratsky, Jane Zeratsky, Aiden and Madeleine Feeney.
A private service will be held at Our Lady of the Lake with hopes for a celebration of life on a warmer Green Lake day. No flowers please. Memorials may be sent to Green Lake Public School Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 475, Green Lake, WI 54941.
