Joseph Simmers

Joseph A. Simmers, age 88, of Green Lake, WI, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at his home surrounded by family.

Joseph was born May 14, 1931, in Gallitzin, PA, the son of John and Mildred (Conrad) Simmers. After high school, he served our country in the United States Army, serving in Korea from 1951 to 1955. Then, after coming home from the service, Joseph took up residency in Chicago as he pursued his penpal turned true love, Jacqueline. Together, they raised four children and built a beautiful life on the south side of Chicago. In 1996, after his retirement, they moved to Green Lake. Surrounded by family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Joseph was loved and adored for many years before his passing.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jacqueline Simmers of Green Lake, WI; son, John Simmers of Bristol, WI; daughter, Joy (Bob) Head of Gurnee, IL; son, James Simmers of Green Lake, WI; six grandchildren, Star (Jamie Beach) Lietz, Loni (Ryan) Meiborg, Jacqueline and Bobby Head and Joe and Jessie Simmers; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Blake Meiborg and Erik Brockman and his sister, Sally Litzinger of Gallitzin, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Justine Lietz; son-in-law, Scott Lietz and loving sisters, Jane, Rose, Theresa and Mary Louise.

Per Joseph’s wishes there will be no service. Memorials may be directed to the Green Lake Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 86, Green Lake, WI 54941. The family would like to thank Agnesian Hospice Hope for their ongoing care and compassion.
