John Porath

John C. Porath, age 66, of of Ripon, WI, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at his home.

John was born on May 25, 1954 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Norwood and Marjorie (Jerome) Porath. He attended Holy Cross grade school and graduated from Marquette University High School in Milwaukee. On July 30, 1983 he married Deborah A. Watts at Our Saviour's United Church of Christ in Ripon. John was a devoted and loving husband. He and his wife enjoyed bike riding in the Ripon area. They also enjoyed rock concerts and, when possible, traveled to attend them throughout the country. John has always had eclectic interests in jobs from raising and selling tropical fish and, at one time, had over 35 fish tanks, working at the Penguin House at the Milwaukee County Zoo, making candles and working at Paul's Auction. He amassed an extensive collection of rock musician albums and assembled a high end music system and headphones to enjoy them. John researched and became something of an expert in antiques. As a result he started and owned an antique business, “Monster Rummage,” with a store front in Ripon for over 37 years. He frequently traveled to both acquire and sell antiques. John also worked for the US Census. He cared for and managed his mother's affairs while she was in independent, assisted living and nursing home in Milwaukee. His positive and happy disposition will be missed by family and friends alike. May he rest in peace.

John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Deborah Porath of Ripon, WI; two brothers, Jerome of Oxnard, CA and Thomas of Santa Ana, CA; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norwood and Marjorie Porath; and a brother, James Porath.

A private family graveside service and inurnment for John will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Town of Ripon, with Pastor Paul Ethington officiating. A memorial is being established in his name.
