John Arden Hoekstra, age 85, of Berlin, WI, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017, at Brown Wilcox Assisted Living in Berlin.
John was born August 31, 1932, in Alto, WI, the son of Alex and Bessie (Rens) Hoekstra. On September 1, 1950, he married Margaret D. Snyder in the parsonage of Christian Reformed Church in Alto. John was a farmer his whole life. He was a member of Alto Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Margaret Hoekstra of Markesan, WI; two daughters, MaryJoy (Mylin) Damsteegt of Ripon, WI and Dianne Hoekstra of Markesan, WI; three sons, Gerry Hoekstra, Jeffery (Sheryl) Hoekstra and Daniel (Debra) Hoekstra all of Waupun, WI; eighteen grandchildren, Robb Damsteegt of Randolph, WI, Troy Damsteegt of Ripon, WI, Jeremiah (Nicki Zahn) Hoekstra of Beloit, WI, Nicole (Mark) TerBeest of Brandon, WI, Kaisha (Chris) Dornfeld of Cambria, WI, Amanda (Jesse) Buteyn, Shane Hoekstra, Shyann (Connor) Patrouille and Tristin Hoekstra all of Waupun, WI, Hope (Jason) Prochnow of Markesan, WI, Stacy (Julius) Stecker of Cambridge, WI, Alex and Claire Hoekstra, Danielle (John) Mcknight, John (Destiny) Hoekstra all of Waupun, WI, Trisha Westhuis of Markesan, WI, Tylor (Angela Wells) Westhuis of Fairwater, WI and 22 great-grandchildren. John is further survived by his sister, Ella Mae Veleke of Waupun, WI. John was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Bessie Hoekstra; stepmom, Gertrude; grandson, Brock Everett Hoekstra; brother, William Hoekstra and sister, Ramona Kamphuis.
Per John’s wishes, there will be no service. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Oakmound Cemetery in the Town of Alto. Memorials may be sent to Margaret Hoekstra, 302 N. Grand St., Apt. 101, Markesan, WI 53946.
