Jerrold “Jerry” Emory Smith, 79, of Ripon, WI, passed away on November 20, 2022, at home with his loving family by his side.
Son of Lloyd and Marcella (Mellenthin) Smith, Jerry was born in Sycamore, IL on January 15, 1943. After school, Jerry enlisted in the Air Force and served our country from 1962 to 1966. Jerrold married Mary Jo Stemler in 1968 in Berlin, WI and they later had 2 sons, Jeremy and Jason.
Jerry spent many years as a contract painter, later becoming a farmer. He loved the outdoors and took pleasure working the land on his farm. Jerry enjoyed fishing, Nascar races and watching the birds and wildlife in the backyard. He was a member of the American Legion.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Smith of Ripon, WI; sons, Jeremy (Doreen) Smith of Waupun, WI and Jason Smith of Oshkosh, WI; granddaughter, Ashlyn Smith; mother, Marcella Smith of Ripon, WI; brothers, LeRoy Smith of Plainfield, WI and Howard Smith of Ripon, WI; and sister, JoAnn (John) Strandell of Ripon, WI. He is preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Smith, Sr., sister, Marjorie Szopinski, brother, Lloyd Smith, Jr., and stepfather Les Zimmerman.
Visitation for Jerry will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 9:00 until 11:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church, 500 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Messiah Lutheran Church, with Rev. Bryan Fritsch officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date. A memorial is being established in his name.
