Herbert Herb Leonard Grams, 88, of Ripon, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Parkview Care Center in Ripon, from cancer.
Herb was born February 29, 1912, in the Town of Berlin, to the late Herman and Elsie (Abel) Grams. He attended Rush Lake and Berlin Schools. He married Delila M. Dunn on October 16, 1937, in the Town of Eldorado. After marriage, he farmed near Rush Lake. He later moved to Ripon and worked at Van Metre Garage, drove school bus, operated the Eldorado Village Garage and worked for 15 years at Blakely Auto Parts. After retirement, he worked for Green Giant and was a route carrier for the Oshkosh Northwestern.
He was a past member of the Ripon Fire Department, having served 30 years, member of the Ripon Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club, Ripon Lions Club, and a member of the Nepeuskun Anti-Horse Thieves Assoc. Mr. Grams was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. During his retirement, Herb enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and Brewers Baseball.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Delila; sons, Dennis Grams of Fond du Lac and Peter (Brenda) Grams of Ripon; daughter, Marial (Nicholas) Ludwig of Ripon; grandsons, Darrel and Jonathan Ludwig of Ripon, and Michael Ludwig of Oshkosh; brother, Alfred (Dorothy) Grams of Ripon; sister, Adela Beier of Ripon and several nephews & nieces, great-nephews & nieces, great-great-nephews & nieces, and great-great-great-nephews & nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Larry Lee Grams, 1 brother, Arthur Grams, and 1 sister, Georgene Wizner.
Funeral service for Herbert Grams will be Friday, April 28, 2000, at 11 Am at Grace Lutheran Church, Ripon with Pastor Jonathan Stansfield officiating. Lunch will follow at the church, Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Ripon. Visitation will be Thursday, April 27 from 4 until 8 PM at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, and again on Friday from 10 AM until the hour of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial.
