Grace Schmitt, age 89, of Brandon, WI, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah, WI, with her loving family by her side.
Grace was born on June 21, 1937, in Berlin, WI, daughter of Paul and Isabell (Reetz) Sina. She graduated from Ripon High School in 1955. On October 31, 1959, she married Floyd Schmitt at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Ripon, WI, and remained a devoted member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Her faith was important to her, and passing that on to her children was a priority. Grace worked at various jobs over the years, including Rippin’ Good Cookies, Ripon Pickle Factory, and the canning factory in Fairwater; however, the job that meant the most to her was raising her family. Family meant so much to Grace, having everyone together and spending quality time with each other. She loved going to all the extracurricular activities of her children and grandchildren. She also loved gardening and canning vegetables in her younger years. Grace was an avid polka fan. She learned to play the accordion and enjoyed listening to Tuba Dan radio shows on Saturdays and Sundays. Grace met and cherished many new friends at Prairie Place over the past few years; playing cards with them, playing in the bell choir, and becoming a Bingo expert. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Grace is survived by her children, Thomas (Sandra) Schmitt of Brookfield, WI, Terri (Dave) Teela of Greenville, WI, David Schmitt of Chippewa Falls, WI, Michael (Jodie) Schmitt of Appleton, WI, and John (Molly) Schmitt of Madison, WI; grandchildren, Bradley (Ciara) Teela, Brian (Allison) Schmitt, Kevin Schmitt, Danielle (Travis) Watson, and Sydney, Sadie, and Sophia Schmitt; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Winifred (Adam) Kwiecinski and Helen Dietz; and numerous nieces; nephews; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Isabell Sina; her husband of nearly 60 years, Floyd Schmitt; two infant daughters, Antoinette and Bernadette; siblings, Frank and Barbara; and numerous in-laws.
