Gordon Harris

Gordon J. Harris, age 76, of Pickett, WI, fought a long, hard battle with cancer and died with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 5, 2013.
Gordon was born October 10, 1936, the first born son of Lloyd and Effie (Larson) Harris in Capron, IL. When he was growing up he became the man of the house for his family and started his love of farming. He later met Donna L. Kyle and they married on June 11, 1966 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvard, IL. At that time, he worked as a driver for Pete Freight Lines of Woodstock, IL. With his love of farming, he convinced Donna that they should purchase a farm, which they named, “Udder Hillside Dairy” in Pickett, WI. They operated it from 1973-1985. He then was a mechanic for the local canning factory until he retired in 2002. In his retirement, Gordon restored his faithful friend the JOHN DEERE tractor. He ended up collecting and restoring multiple tractors and equipment. His blood truly bled green. He also was involved with and a former board member of the Pickett Community Center, a former member of the Pickett Jaycees and the Pickett Lions Club, Capron, Illinois Fire Department and Utica Fire Department, the Pickett Steam Club and the Fox Valley Two Cylinder Club.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of 46 years; his daughters, Barbara Sager of Capron, IL, Kimberly (Robert) Dearman of Onalaska, WI, Shelly (Jack) Fruehbrodt of Rush Lake, WI; son John (Vickie Kolb) Harris of Pickett, WI; grandchildren, Scott, Sherri, Seth Sager, and Bayle Dearman; his sisters, Carol Robertson, Janice Carlson, Kay (Robert) Marincic, LaVerne (Kay) Harris all of Illinois. He is also survived by his faithful co-pilot chocolate lab, Ty, whom he rescued. He was Pa Harris to many. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Marjorie Harris, Effie Harris, his in-laws, Donald and Velma (Carney) Kyle; brothers-in-law, Walter Kyle and Bernard Robertson and nephew Thomas Robertson.
Visitation for Gordon Harris will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013, from 10:00-1:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral Service for Gordon Harris will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 1:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Pastor Dan Gibson will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Liberty Prairie Cemetery in the Town of Utica, WI. A memorial is being established.
