Goldean Welk

July 10, 1943 — January 20, 2013

Goldean “Goldie” Mae Welk, age 69, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Ripon Medical Center.

Goldie was born on July 10, 1943, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Earl and Esther (Sandow) Krueger. She graduated from Oakfield High School and in 1964, Goldie married Don L. Welk and lived in Markesan for over 40 years. She worked for the Green Lake County Sherriff’s Department for 25 years as a matron secretary. Goldie also worked as a receptionist for the local clinic as well as a first aid attendant at Del Monte for many years. She was a member Brandon United Methodist Church.

Goldie enjoyed being a hospice volunteer and also crocheting and making personal gifts for others. She and her husband had years of snowmobiling, card playing and bowling with friends. Later in life, after retirement, Goldie and her husband lived the winters in Mission, TX and summers in Bancroft, WI. Once she moved to Ripon, she befriended an old acquaintance, Jerry Johnson. He was a caring, sharing, helpful and social companion.

Survivors include her daughter, Tammy (Jay) Towne of Ripon, WI; three grandchildren, Allison, Nick and Ashley; sister-in-law, Carole (Jim) Talma of Markesan, WI and their children, David, LoriAnn, LuAnn, Curt and their families as well as many cousins. Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Don; son, Gene and her mother and father-in-law, Dan and Sylvia Welk.

Visitation for Goldean will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013, from 1 – 3:00 pm at Brandon United Methodist Church, 107 E. Washington St., Brandon, WI 53919.

Funeral service for Goldean will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 3:00 pm at Brandon United Methodist Church in Brandon. Pastor Laura Yates will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Markesan Cemetery in Markesan at a later date. A memorial is being established.
