Gilbert “Gib” J. Stoeberl, age 77, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, WI surrounded by family and friends.

Gib was born on August 5, 1942 in Almena, WI, the son of Joseph and Vitalis (Demers) Stoeberl. He also served as an athletic director and was active in the improvements in Ingall’s Football Field. Gib participated in Habitat for Humanity, making many trips to Mississippi with his friends from Ripon. He was a member of Ripon’s City Council and served on the Fire District committee during the acquisition of the new fire house and fire truck. While Gib was still coaching, he worked for “We the People” to offer civics education curriculum to high schools across the state. In retirement, he continued to display his passion for history and his community by serving as an active member of the Ripon Historical Society. He was very active in his church serving as a catechist, reader, and eucharistic minister. Gib was most recently serving as the Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

Gib is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen Stoeberl of Ripon; sons, Todd (Michaele) Stoeberl and their children, Mitchell, Morgan, and Madison of Willmar, MN, Jeffrey (Kaley) Stoeberl and their children, Alexander, Andrew and Elizabeth of Suamico, WI, and Matthew (Camille) Stoeberl and their children, Zachary, Sydney and Mallory of Highland Village, TX; sister, Juliet Erickson of Fond du Lac, WI; sister-in-law, Sandra Drost of Rice Lake, WI; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
