Ellen Wells, age 97, of Green Lake, WI, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Kindred Hearts Assisted Living in Green Lake.
Ellen was born on July 3, 1920, in Kells, County Meath, Ireland, the daughter of Edward and Kathleen (Dolan) Irwin. In February of 1944, she married Russell L. Wells in Liverpool, England. Ellen was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake, as well as a member of the Our Lady of the Lake Altar Society, and an auxillary member of the American Legion Post #306 in Green Lake. Ellen loved to fish with her husband and son. She enjoyed knitting and was an avid reader. Ellen also enjoyed going to yard sales, and later in life she began a new hobby of oil painting, surprising everyone with her talent. She belonged to a miniature golf league, and she would always get a hole-in-one.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Catherine (Bill) Willmann of Delavan, WI; grandchildren, Christopher Manfrin, and Dylan (Jessica) Wells; a great-grandson, Jude Alexander Wells; daughter-in-law, Leni Wells Knudsen of Oshkosh, WI; sisters, Kay Martin of Dublin, Ireland, Ita Tricks of England, Avril (Derek) Purssord of England and Mona McMahon of Ireland; brother, Joseph Irwin of Ireland; dear friends, Arlene Alvin, Lynn, Barbie, and Chuck of Green Lake. She is further survived by many nieces; nephews; and cousins around the world. Ellen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell, a loving daughter, Patricia Ellen Wells; and a loving son, Russ Wells and five brothers, John, Brendan, Jimmy, Eddie and Patrick.
A visitation for Ellen will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI, 54971.
A funeral service for Ellen will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, with Father Philip Krogman officiating. Interment will follow at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake, WI. Ellen's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Kindred Hearts Assisted Living in Green Lake, especially Heather, Marcia, Amanda, Tonia and Bill, as well as Generations Home Care and Hospice for their wonderful care of Ellen. Memorials in Ellen's name may be directed to the charity of your choice.
