Ellen L. Teela, age 90, of Ripon, WI, passed away on March 13, 2018, at Care Partners Assisted Living in Hortonville, WI.
Ellen was born in Oslo, Norway on August 8, 1927, the daughter of Lauritz and Esther (Fageness) Larsen. At the end of WWII, she met Master Sergeant Robert Teela while stationed in Oslo. She ventured on a ship to the U.S. by herself, and they married on September 27, 1947. She later became a U.S. Citizen. They made their home in Ripon, and were married for over 54 years until Robert passed away in 2002. Ellen worked for the Ripon Public School system for many years, as a lunch server and later a crossing guard. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon. Ellen was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Sons of Norway. She enjoyed walking, loved traveling and the occasional trip to the casino, and she cherished all the children at school. Most of all she loved and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ellen is survived by her children, Craig (Debra) Teela of Ripon, WI, Holly (Wayne) Henslin of Racine, WI, and Dave (Terri) Teela of Greenville, WI; seven grandchildren, Jason (Nena) Teela of Appleton, WI, Brett (Erica) Teela of Black Earth, WI, Heather (Jesse) Hendricks of Ripon, WI, Josh (Lisa) Henslin of Kaukauna, WI, Aaron Henslin of Racine, WI, Brad (Ciara) Teela of Appleton, WI, and Dani (Travis) Watson of Cary, NC; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Kathy Teela of AZ, and two sisters-in-law in Norway. She is further survived by nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Lauritz and Esther; her husband, Robert; a grandson, Mike Teela; three brothers, Arvil, Arvid, and Arne; and two sisters, Turid and Inger.
A visitation for Ellen will be held from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 401 W. Fond du Lac St., Ripon, WI, 54971.
A memorial service for Ellen will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 6, 2018, also at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon, with Reverend Michael Morning officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon. A memorial is being established.
