Edwin “Ed” Charles VandeBrink, age 92, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Markesan Resident Home in Markesan, WI.
Edwin, the son of Steve, Sr. and Anne (Vande Kolk) VandeBrink, was born on May 21, 1930 in Oakfield, WI. He attended school until the 8th grade when he left school to help on the family farm. On October 8, 1949 he married Marion Prellwitz at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon. Ed served our country in the Army National Guard for 9 years. As a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, he served on the church council and stewardship committee and was an usher for many years. Ed played dartball on the church and city league for many years as well. His years as a 4-H leader for Three Hilltoppers, and as a boy scout leader gave him great joy, as he loved all children and could always make them laugh.
Ed is most remembered for always having a happy face for his customers at his vegetable stand that he ran at his house with his wife for over 40 years. His funny wit was infectious. Some days we know he gave away more produce than what he sold.
Ed is survived by his son, Barry (Gail) VandeBrink of Ripon, WI; two grandsons, Jeremie (Jamie) VandeBrink of Ripon, WI and Josh VandeBrink of Markesan, WI; a granddaughter, Kim (Adam) Downs of Ripon, WI; great-grandsons, Ryan and Nathan VandeBrink and Zack Downs, all of Ripon, WI; and great-granddaughters, Aubrey and Adilyn Downs of Ripon, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents, Steve, Sr. and Anne VandeBrink; his wife, Marion VandeBrink; infant son, Daniel; son, Brian VandeBrink; and several siblings.
Visitation for Ed will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 3:00 - 7:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971, and again from 10:00 - 11:00 am on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, 343 Scott St., Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral service for Ed will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon, with Rev. Dr. Kevin P. Mundell officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon, WI. A memorial is being established in Ed’s name.
