Dorothy Baird

The world lost a very special person on Monday, February 28, 2022, when Dorothy Florence Baird, age 91, passed away peacefully at Whispering Pines Nursing and Rehab with her children by her side.
She was born January 24, 1931, at home to Frank and Ida (Schwersenska) Schultz. She was the fourth and youngest daughter. She was a life-long member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ. Dorothy graduated with honors from Ripon Senior High School, and married the love of her life, Floyd Baird September 10, 1949. Sadly, she lost him when she was only 55 years old.
Dorothy worked at Admanco at the beginning and end of her working life. She worked at Ripon Knitting Works for 12 years as a clicker operator cutting slipper soles, and also worked some summers at Green Giant in addition to helping Floyd on the farm.
In earlier years, she was known as “The Doll Lady” as she had a beautiful collection of antique dolls which she loved to look at and share her love of them with others. She was a member of the Ripon Schmear Club, loved to go to the casinos, and loved to polka. She especially loved to listen to Tuba Dan in later years.
She is survived by a son, Dale of Appleton, WI; daughter, Judy (Bill) Swan of Sun Prairie, WI and grandson, Nathan (special friend, Le Ann) Swan of Sun Prairie. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and good neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd in 1987 and her parents. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Verna Hoffman, Esther Stellmacher, and Eldora Sieger; sisters-in-law, Velma Lehman, Adeline Baird, and Marie Baird, and brothers-in-law, Lester Baird, Eric Keplin, Carlton Stellmacher, Arnold Hoffman, Clifford Sieger, and Kenneth Lehman.
Visitation for Dorothy will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, from 9 – 11:00 am at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, 343 Scott St., Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral Service for Dorothy will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 11:00 am at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ with Reverend Wesley Wassell officiating. You may view a livestream of Dorothy’s funeral service at 11:00 am here LIVESTREAM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon. A memorial is being established in her name.
