Darwin A. R. Krentz, age 79, of Olden Rd, Ripon, passed away Dec. 23, 2004 at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon.
He was born May 26, 1925 on a farm in Spink County, South Dakota to Edyth Borst Krentz and Carl Krentz. He was raised in Doland, S.D. where he attended elementary school and 2 years of high school. In 1942 Darwin moved to Wisconsin and completed his education at Wautoma High School. During World War II he served in the infantry in the European Theater with the Army. On June 25, 1948 Darwin and Lucille Dutcher were married in Wautoma.
In high school Darwin was very athletic playing football, basketball and baseball. He refereed high school basketball for many years. Speed Queen in Ripon was his place of employment for 43 years. Retiring in 1990, he was then a tour guide for Speed Queen. He will be remembered for providing Christmas trees to the Ripon area for 48 years. He especially enjoyed providing the huge Lights of Love tree to Ripon Hospital. He received enjoyment giving away Dars dill pickles and garden vegetables to his friends. Darwin worked with children coaching 4-H basketball and baseball teams and taking children on tours of his tree farm. He was a member of Elo Evangelical Church, Ripon V.F.W. and Ripon Hospital Associates.
Surviving are wife, Lucille, Ripon; one daughter, Karen Krentz (friend Roy Banville), Pickett; and one sister, Arlene Krentz, Oshkosh. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Homer; two sisters, Lucille Huyck and Beverly Dyson.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 27, 2004 at Elo Evangelical Church in Pickett with Rev. Mallothi Brown officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, December 26 from 2-5 p.m. at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon, and again Monday at the church from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be at Richford Cemetery, Town of Richford, Waushara County. Memorials can be given to Elo Evangelical Church and the Diabetes Association in his name.
