Dale E. Schermerhorn, age 91, of Ripon, WI, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Whispering Pines in Ripon, with his family by his side.
Dale was born in South Dakota on October 22, 1929. He grew up on a farm in Callaway, MN, and went on to proudly serve our country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. In 1954, Dale married Madeline Hemmah in Detroit Lakes and they celebrated their 67th anniversary this year. He was a service manager at Ripon Ford for many years. His passion was wood carving. Dale was known as The Wood Carver, and was a member of the Princeton Wood Carving Club. He attended Calvary Lutheran Church in Princeton. He loved animals of all kinds. Most of all Dale loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was fondly known by those who loved him as Grandpa.
Dale is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Madeline Schermerhorn of Ripon, WI; three daughters, Rhonda (Bruce) Roskom of Omro, WI, Pamela (Rick) Ramirez of Menominee Falls, WI, and Debbie (Dave) Bauer of Greendale, WI; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several siblings; as well as many nieces; nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
A private family ceremony for Dale will take place at a later date. Memorials in his name may be directed to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, 1925 Shelter Ct., Oshkosh, WI 54901. A very special thank you to the care takers and staff at Whispering Pines for their love, outstanding care, hugs and shared tears. Grandpa and his family will hold all of you in their hearts. You're all truly angels.
