Cynthia Galster

Cynthia Winn (nee Lisle) Galster, age 91, of Green Lake, WI, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Markesan Resident Home in Markesan, WI.

Cynthia was born on December 24, 1930 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Claiborne and Marion (Leith) Lisle. She graduated from Highland Park High School and went on to further her education at Michigan State University. On September 14, 1951, she married Russell George Galster in Detroit. They first moved to Green Lake in 1965, when Russ became Head of Grounds for the American Baptist Assembly. After a long stint in Michigan, they moved back to Green Lake in 1976 and established their own business, Russ Galster Landscaping, where she was the bookkeeper and co-owner. Cynthia was a devoted member of the Federated Church of Green Lake, a member of the Green Lake School board, former Regent of John Scott Horner Dar chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Dartford Educational Club. She enjoyed and documented family gatherings; organizing class reunions; conducting geneology research; knitting Christmas stockings for her family; travel; playing bridge; taking photographs; and most of all she thoroughly cherished time spent with her family.

Cynthia is survived by 7 children, Diana Winn Galster of Green Lake, WI, Evelyn Elizabeth Galster also of Green Lake, WI, Claiborne Lisle Galster of Michigan, Brian Raymond (Cathy) Galster of Green Lake, WI, Steven Russell (Onkuri) Galster of Bangkok, Thailand, Heidi-Ann (Richard) Scharlat of Falls Church, VA, and Donald Congreve (Laura) Galster of Brookfield, WI; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren with two on the way; and a very special friend, Thomas Driscoll of Sarasota, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claiborne and Marion Lisle; her husband, Russell in 1993; her brother, Donald C. Lisle; mother and father-in-law, Hazel and Russell Galster; and a son-in-law, Paul Kinas.

Visitation for Cynthia will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 10 – 11:00 am at Federated Church of Green Lake, 489 Scott St., Green Lake, WI 54941.

A memorial service for Cynthia will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 am at Federated Church of Green Lake, 489 Scott St., Green Lake, WI, 54941, with Reverend Karen Gygax Rodriguez officiating. Inurnment will follow at Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake, WI, followed by a luncheon back at the church. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The “Cynthia Winn Galster Memorial Fund” will be established under the charity Freeland to be designated for youth scholarships for the Green Lake school district. The Galster family would like to express special thanks to the staff of the Markesan Residential Home and to Duane Dahnke for their kindness and support.
