Barbara A. Novitske

Barbara Ann Novitske passed away September 1, 2026 at her home.

She was born April 21, 1953 in Warren, Ohio, to Betty and Jerome “Shorty” Halvorson. She was one of eight children and is survived by her brothers and sisters, Coleen Andersen, Eugene Halvorson, John Hopkins, Jerry Halvorson, Brian Halvorson, Nancy Krull, and Lisa Makely.

She was the wife of Joel, with whom she shared 48 years of marriage. Their love was an example of what love was—unconditional and real. It wasn’t always perfect, but it was perfect in its own way. Together, they built a home and a family filled with love.

She was a caring mother to her daughters, Tanya, Andrea, and Allison, and a loving Nana to Joslyn, Emily, Vivian, and Jade. Her family, especially her grandchildren, was her greatest joy. She loved watching them grow, spending time with them, and being a part of their lives. Being a Nana was one of the roles she cherished most.

Barb was truly one of a kind. She had a bold personality, an enormous heart, and a way of making people laugh. She spent so much of her life taking care of others, creating a home where people felt comfortable, loved, and welcome. Whether gathered around her table, sharing a conversation, or enjoying a drink together, she had a gift for making people feel like family. Many friends became family to her.

She had a love for plants and flowers, and there was something special about watching her care for them and bring a little more life and beauty into her home. She also loved to travel, and some of her favorite memories were made in Mexico.

Barb loved her family fiercely, loved her grandchildren endlessly, and never needed an invitation to speak her mind. She was a firecracker, full of life, love, and personality, and she was never afraid to be completely herself.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the countless people whose lives she touched. Those who knew her will remember her laughter, her big heart, her strong spirit, and the way she had of making everyone feel at home.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
