Ardis D. Schmitt, age 92, formerly of Ripon, WI, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Atrium Senior Living in Stevens Point, WI.
Ardis was born in Ripon on August 6, 1925, the daughter of Emil and Leona (Hein) Zimdars. She graduated from Ripon High School, and went on to work at the Rippin' Good Cookie Factory and also the Ripon Commonwealth Press. On November 3, 1956, she married Alexander Schmitt, who passed away in 2006. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Ripon. Ardis loved spending time with her family, enjoying watching her granddaughters and great-grandsons grow. She also enjoyed boating and spending time at their cottage in Glidden, WI, as well as traveling the states with Alex after they retired. Ardis also loved to crochet and needle point, often donating lap blankets to nursing homes and The Humane Society. She took pleasure in making Christmas stockings for each member of her family.
Ardis is survived by her daughter, Patti (Bob) Stanislawski of Stevens Point, WI; granddaughters, Anne (fiancee, Kristina Oestreich) Stanislawski of Cross Plains, WI, Carrie (Chris) Leary of Amherst, WI, and Kelly (Adam) Hernandez of Menasha, WI; great-grandsons, Lucas and Thomas Leary of Amherst, WI, and Reece Hernandez of Menasha, WI. She is further survived by nieces; nephews; and cousins. Ardis is preceded in death by her husband, Alexander; parents, Emil and Leona; sister, Madonna Oakes; brother, Leland Zimdars; and several other family members and friends.
A visitation for Ardis will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 228 Blossom St., Ripon, WI, 54971.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ardis will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Ripon, with Reverend Robert A. Fictum officiating. Inurnment will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Memorials in Ardis' name may be directed to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
