Ardis Mitchell

Ardis Geneva Mitchell, age 91, of Ripon, WI, went to heaven, joining her family who predeceased her, her husband, Harold Mitchell, three children, son, Scott Mitchell, son, Dan Mitchell and daughter, Linda Mitchell on Sunday, April 24, 2022.

Ardis was born on August 23, 1930, in Madison, WI, the daughter of Otto and Elizabeth (Bryan) Pierstorff. Ardis grew up in the Madison, WI, area. She married Harold Mitchell on June 22, 1950 and moved to northern Illinois where she returned to school and became a 2nd grade teacher in Rochelle, IL. She loved working with and teaching those kids. Ardis ended her teaching career when she and Harold moved to Green Lake, WI, where they each took jobs at the American Baptist Assembly (ABA); later becoming Green Lake Conference Center. Ardis spent 35 years either working at or volunteering at the ABA. That place was very important to her, and up to her last days she wished for nothing more than to visit the beautiful grounds and scenery it offered, along with years of special memories.

Church was an important part of Ardis’ life. She was blessed to have been a member at what she felt were some of the best around. Her final church home was First Congregational Church in Ripon. She was involved in PEO, American Baptist Women’s groups, and numerous other church groups.

She was involved in helping to relocate and support a family from Laos, led youth groups, worked to develop a bus ministry to reach out to families and their children, and had a huge passion for missions. Ardis lived a life full of love for others and was always ready to help and serve others in need. Her home belonged to anyone who needed a family, a place to rest or just needed a cup of coffee with a friend.

Survivors include her sister, Margie Roman; two daughters, Sue (Dave) Conant of Ripon, WI and Bette (Rasmus Lauridsen) from Denmark; two daughters-in-law, Barb Mitchell of Ripon, WI and Teri Mitchell of Rochelle, IL; five grandkids, Matt (Josie) Mitchell, Sara Mitchell, Josh (Tirza) Mitchell, Lindsay (Brad McMurtry) Mitchell and Garrett Mitchell and also nine loving great-grandchildren, Jack, Cameron, Bruce, Chase, Aria, Emery, Brock, Mia and Frankie.

A memorial service for Ardis will be held Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 1:00 pm in the Vesper Circle, at Green Lake Conference Center. Memorials in Ardis’ name may be sent to: Rainbow Acres, 2120 W. Reservation Loop Road, Camp Verde, AZ 86322. Checks should be made out to “Rainbow Acres” with “In Memory of Ardis Mitchell” on the memo line.
